The U.S. Department of Justice has seized $225 million in cryptocurrency linked to an international fraud scheme, marking the largest forfeiture of its kind. Blockchain analysis traced the funds through hundreds of thousands of transactions designed to obscure their origin.

"These schemes harm American victims, costing them billions annually, and undermine trust in crypto," said Matthew R. Galeotti of the DOJ's Criminal Division. The civil forfeiture complaint targets assets tied to sophisticated laundering networks that preyed on defrauded investors.

Prosecutors emphasized their commitment to recovering victim funds and pursuing bad actors. The case highlights growing regulatory scrutiny as authorities deploy advanced tracing tools to combat crypto-related crime.
